A defensive stalwart on the LU football team from 1962-65, Wallace Davis helped the Blue Tigers win 23 games and finish No. 5 in the nation, according to the Pittsburgh Courier, following an 8-2 season in 1964. Lincoln posted four shutouts and never had a losing record while Davis was on the team. From 1963-65, Davis was named to the MWAA All-League team and, in 1964, led LU with 127 tackles. In that season, Lincoln defeated St. Mary's of Kansas, 74-0, and Missouri-Rolla (now S&T), 73-0, for the two most lopsided victories in LU history. Davis later went on to play professionally for the Atlanta Falcons from 1966-67. Following his professional career, Davis became the head coach at Carver High School in Columbus, Ga. In that capacity, Davis amassed over 150 wins, including four regional championships, and coached more than 400 student-athletes who earned college scholarships, including 15 who later went on to play in the National Football League. A member of the track & field team during his years at Lincoln, Davis also became a prolific track & field coach, leading Carver to more than 20 regional championships and earning 10 league Coach of the Year awards.
