Beeks originally graduated from Lincoln University in 1948, before later coming back to complete a master’s degree in 1970. He competed for four years in both football and basketball, while also coaching football, basketball and track.

Beeks was named to the All Midwest team in basketball (1945), as well as in football (1945-47). During the 1945-46 seasons, he was selected to represent LU in the all-star Midwest basketball game that was held in Chicago. At the end of his varsity football career, he was honored by the Student Council for his playing career and was the first athlete to receive this award. 

In 1952, he was contacted by Coach Ray Kemp to teach, along with holding positions of assistant basketball and football coach at Lincoln. He remained on the staff until 1955 before accepting a position in the St. Louis Public School District. 

He eventually became the school principal in 1973, in which he was the first black high school principal in the city of University City, MO.
