Kevin Burgess

Kevin Burgess was an outstanding high school athlete at Maplewood High School in St. Louis. He continued to excel at Lincoln University athletics from 1972–1976 and was the first freshman to play both defense and offense (linebacker and running back) for an LU football team. He served as a team captain for three seasons and was named Most Valuable Player for the 1975–76 year.

Burgess wrestled in the 177 pound weight class and had a college career record of 101 wins and 14 losses. Twice named MIAA Conference MVP, Burgess held first place in his weight class for two years and was a national qualifier in 1974, 1975 and 1976. He ranked fifth nationally in his weight class out of 1,560 wrestlers. Burgess was a 1976 NCAA Division II All American and was named 1976 Missouri Wrestler of the Year.

As a teacher/coach in the Jefferson City, Hazelwood and Ferguson/Florissant School Districts for 29 years, Burgess has coached four Missouri State Championship Wrestling Teams, including 68 individual first place winners and over 200 place winners. He has also served as a highly regarded high school and NCAA Wrestling official for over 20 years.
