In one of the finest seasons in the history of Lincoln University athletics, the 2004 Women's Track & Field Team won national championships in both indoor and outdoor track & field team. The Blue Tigers capped off the indoor season by winning Lincoln's first-ever national title in that sport, and the second national championship in LU history. The Blue Tigers scored 64 points, six more than runner-up Adams State, and posted 10 total All-American performances. That included victories in the 60m hurdles, where Nikkisha Maynard won in 8.67, and in the 400m dash, where Marlene Smith (55.05) and Moya Thompson (55.16) respectively finished first and second.

The Blue Tigers went on to also win the 2004 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship, giving LU back-to-back national titles in outdoor track & field and its third national championship all-time. The Blue Tigers once again edged Adams State, 85-81, for the title, with the foursome of Lileith Smith, Kelly Marshall, Marlene Smith and Thompson sealing the victory with a win in the 4x400m relay. Lincoln recorded 14 All-American performances, including five victories. The Blue Tigers swept the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, and Shandria Brown picked up national titles in the 100m (11.33) and 200m (23.16) while Moya Thompson took the crown in the 400m.
