The MIAA champion in the 100-yard dash from 1971-73, James Amerison led the Lincoln men's outdoor track & field team to a second-place finish at the 1973 NCAA Division II Championships. The team's high-point scorer in each of those three years, Amerison helped Lincoln to two third-place finishes at the MIAA outdoor championships and a second-place result in the indoor title meet. In addition to his success at the collegiate level, Amerison proved he could compete with the best in the world, as his top time of 9.49 ranks as the 80^th-fastest in the history of the men's 100-yard dash. In 1971, Amerison's accomplishments were selected for print by the editorial board of Outstanding College Athletes of America.
