Leo Lewis received his Bachelor of Science degree from Lincoln University in 1955. He played on the football team from 1951-1954. Nicknamed the “Lincoln Locomotive,” Lewis started every game and led the Blue Tigers to unbeaten seasons in 1952 and 1953. He rushed for 4,457 yards during his career and in one game he chewed up 245 yards on the ground. After a stellar career in the Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Lewis returned to Jefferson City to serve as the Head Football Coach from 1973-1975. Lewis filled many roles for the Lincoln Athletic Department, which included Head Golf Coach, Women’s Basketball Coach and being named Interim Athletic Director. His number 30 jersey was retired in 2000.
