LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln women's indoor track & field team won four events at the Nebraska Early Bird, hosted on Friday (Dec. 13) by the University of Nebraska.
Britney Brown led six Blue Tigers who finished among the top-eight in the 400m by winning the event in 55.64.
Shevanae Thomas was the runner-up, timing in at 56.16, and
Abigail Brooks claimed fourth with a time of 57.73.
Denita Jackson (59.32),
Namibia Clavier (59.48) and
Deschanique Douglas (1:00.71) respectively placed sixth through eighth.
LU also had tremendous success in the 200m, with
Shantae George winning the race in 24.71 and four other Blue Tigers placing among the top-nine. Thomas (25.21) came in fourth, Jackson (25.78) checked in at fifth,
Aaliyannah Anderson (26.14) took eighth and Brooks (26.24) finished in ninth. In the 60m dash, George posted the second-fastest time of 7.50 while Anderson (7.89) ended the race in eighth and
Mattie Brown (7.94) took ninth.
Maria Diamond (2:15.98) and
Shaneal Clarke Giddings (2:18.16) respectively finished first and second in the 800m while Clarke Giddings claimed sixth in the mile with a time of 5:22.21. LU's other victory came in the 4x400m relay, as the team of Thomas,
Britney Brown, Diamond and Clarke Giddings posted the event's fastest time of 3:44.55. Lincoln also placed second in the relay, with the foursome of Clavier, Brooks, Douglas and
Nattesha Palmer timing in at 4:00.59.
In the field events,
Zoria Shields placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 8.92m while, in the high jump,
Nehlia Mills (1.60m) and
Ellis Cohen (1.55m) respectively claimed eighth and ninth.
Lincoln will be off until Jan. 24, when the Blue Tigers travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to compete in the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational, hosted by Pittsburg State University.
