JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's indoor track & field team was picked to finish third in the MIAA preseason coaches poll while the LU men were chosen fifth, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced on Thursday (Dec. 1).
The Lincoln women received 99 points to tie with Northwest Missouri for third in the preseason poll for the 2022-23 indoor season. Pittsburg State received 121 points to top the rankings while Central Missouri just edged the Blue Tigers by garnering 101 points. Fort Hays State collected 80 points to round out the top-five.
Missouri Southern (70 points) and Nebraska Kearney (62) respectively were selected sixth and seventh, and Washburn received 49 points to check in at eighth. Missouri Western (40) edged Emporia State (39) by one point for ninth, while Rogers State (17) and Central Oklahoma (15) rounded out the preseason poll.
In the men's preseason coaches poll, Lincoln was chosen fifth after receiving 55 points, beating out Fort Hays State and Northwest Missouri, which were close behind with 54 and 53 points, respectively. Washburn was picked eighth with 43 points, while Missouri Western (26), Emporia State (23) and Rogers State (10) closed out the poll.
Pittsburg State unanimously topped the men's poll with 100 points after receiving all 10 possible first-place votes. Missouri Southern collected 83 points to be slotted second, beating out Nebraska Kearney, which garnered 80 points to round out the top-three. Central Missouri was the only other team selected ahead of the Blue Tigers, as the Mules received 78 points.
Lincoln will open its 2022-23 campaign on Saturday (Dec. 3) at the Bob Timmons Challenge, hosted in Lawrence, Kan. by the University of Kansas.
