PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Lincoln women's track & field compiled seven top-five finishes and scored 80 points en route to a third-place finish at the Rumble in the Jungle, hosted by Pittsburg State University on Friday (Jan. 18).
Diana Cauldwell won both the long jump (5.76m) and the triple jump (11.94m), with
Rusheda Blake (11.71m) and
Tajera Lawkin (11.34m) taking second and third in the latter event. Wedjie Atis placed ninth in the triple jump at 10.28m and 10th in the long jump at 5.14m. Blake (5.29m) came in sixth in the long jump while Lawkin (5.01m) finished in 11th.
The foursome of
Rene Medley,
Shanice Clarke,
Dylann Core and
Danielle James took second in the 4x400m relay, and James was the runner-up in the 800m at 2:20.28 while
Melissa Tyme came in ninth in that event at 2:26.11.
Renea Ambersley also had a second-place finish after timing in at 1:22.66 in the 600-yard, while
Kissi-Ann Brown (1:26.46) came in third and Clarke (1:28.48) checked in at sixth. In the mile, meanwhile, James (5:30.95) placed seventh and Tyme (5:37.23) took 11th.
LU's other top-five result came in the 400m, where Core took fifth with a time of 58.90.
Segale Brown also represented Lincoln in that event with a time of 1:00.84, good for eighth. In the 200m, Core (26.29),
Jamika Hypolite (26.33) and
Shaian Vandenburg (26.37) respectively finished seventh through ninth.
Lincoln will return to the Sunflower State next weekend as the Blue Tigers head to Lawrence, Kan. for the University of Kansas' Jayhawk Classic on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 25-26).
