Blue Tigers Open 2024 With Three Wins

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Lincoln's men's and women's indoor track & field teams open the 2024 portion of its campaign with three wins and 25 total top-10 finishes at the Coach Alsup Open, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday (Jan. 20).

The foursome of Sharim Hamilton, Kwani Campbell, Donovan Bruce and Daujaughn Murray won the men's 4x400m relay with a new meet record time of 3:15.86. Dimetri Browne won the long jump with a leap of 6.92m while Melon Lowenfield (6.92m) and Wesley Tyndall (6.85m) rounded out the top-three of that event.

Campbell placed second in the 1000m run, timing in at 2:27.77, and Bruce claimed second in the 600-yard with a time of 1:12.36. In the 600-yard, Murray (1:12.43) finished in third, Hamilton (1:14.04) came in seventh and Shanthamoi Brown (1:16.73) took 10th. 

Browne also posted a fifth-place result in the 60m dash, clocking in at 6.95, while Malik Drummon placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.80m. Emmanuel Rwotomiya, meanwhile, checked in at sixth in the 200m after ending the race in 22.37.

Doreen Onchangu had LU's other victory of the day, winning the women's 1000m in 3:06.57. Shaneal Clarke-Giddings, meanwhile, timed in at 3:08.93 to take third in that event. In the 4x400m relay, the team of Denita Jackson, Nattesha Palmer, Abigail Brooks and Onchangu posted a time of 3:58.59 to come in third.

Lincoln dominated the women's 600-yard, with five Blue Tigers finishing among the top-10. Clarke-Giddings placed second after timing in at 1:25.08 while Odeshia Nanton came in fourth after clocking in at 1:25.99. Brooks (1:29.19) took seventh, Onchangu (1:30.23) was next in eighth and Palmer (1:32.37) closed out the top-10.

Aaliyannah Anderson (7.86) was the fourth-place finisher in the 60m while Jackson (25.65) and Shevane Thomas (25.72) respectively placed seventh and eighth in the 200m. In the field events, Nehlia Mills took fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.62m and Dayshanae Hall came in seventh in the long jump with a distance of 4.88m.

Both Blue Tiger teams will be back in action next Saturday (Jan. 27) at the Wendy's/Pittsburg State Invitational, held in Pittsburg, Kan.
