PUEBLO, Colo. - Lincoln's women's and men's outdoor track & field teams represented the university well during the first day of the 2023 NCAA Division II Championships, as LU qualified five entries into final events on Thursday (May 25).
Lincoln swept the preliminaries of the 400m hurdles, as
Maria Diamond posted the quickest time of 58.49 in the women's event, and
Troy Whyte had the top time of 49.85 in the men's event.
Shanthamoi Brown took 11th (52.00) and
Kewani Campbell placed 13th (52.38) in the men's 400m hurdles.
Reuben Nichols will run in the finals of the 400m after posting a time of 46.44 on Thursday.
Shenese Walker qualified in the women's 100m dash, turning in the third-quickest time of 11.46 in the prelims.
Jovanna Gustave also raced in the 100m, finishing in 11.99.
LU's other finals entry came in the women's 4x100m relay, as the foursome of Walker, Gustave,
Shantae George and
Hughasia Fyffe placed third in the preliminaries after clocking in at 44.51. The Lincoln men just missed the cut in the 4x100m relay, but turned in a second team All-American time of 40.11 to finish in 12th.
The next round of preliminary races will take place on Friday (May 26).
