KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced on Tuesday afternoon (May 24) that Lincoln senior jumper
Kizan David has been named as one of five finalists for the 2021-22 Ken B. Jones Award, Presented by Summit Pointe Financial Group, which is annually presented to the top male and female student-athletes in the MIAA. It is the highest award presented to student-athletes each year by the conference.
A computer information systems major with a 3.9 grade point average, David is currently a key part of a Lincoln men's outdoor track & field that is ranked No. 7 in the country entering the NCAA Championships. The St. Paul's, St. Kitts & Nevis native will represent LU in three events at the championship meet, including the long jump, where he is currently ranked 11th in the nation. David will also compete on Lincoln's 4x100m relay squad, rated 10th in Division II, as well as the triple jump. David was the runner-up at the MIAA Championships in the long jump and as part of the 4x100m relay.
During the indoor season, David earned All-American honors in both the long jump and the triple jump after finishing third at the NCAA Championships in the former event and seventh in the latter. David additionally was selected all-region in both events, and earned All-MIAA distinction with a third-place finish in the long jump at the conference championship meet.Â
In addition to his many accomplishments as a jumper, David has excelled in the classroom during his time at Lincoln, where he is a member of the university's honor society. The 2021 USTFCCCA Indoor Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, David was selected to the CoSIDA/Google Cloud All-American first team and the CoSIDA/Google Cloud All-District first team in both 2019 and 2020, and he is an eight-time recipient of the MIAA Scholar Athlete Award, which goes to student-athletes who achieve All-MIAA status and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. David has been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll eight times, and has received national recognition for his academic performance from the USTFCCCA on three occasions.
In 2021, David won the NCAA Division II national championship in the long jump and was the national runner-up in the triple jump at the Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in March. A two-time first team All-American that year, David additionally won the triple jump and finished as the runner-up in the long jump at the MIAA Indoor Championships, and earned two USTFCCCA All-Region awards during the 2021 indoor season. Also a two-time All-MIAA performer, David led the country in the triple jump and was fifth nationally in the long jump entering the NCAA Division II Championships, where he helped Lincoln finish seventh overall.
The awards last year were split between winter and spring, and David was named the MIAA Winter Male Student-Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Blue Tiger to earn the conference's most prestigious student-athlete award. David was also a finalist for the MIAA Spring Male Student-Athlete of the Year honor in 2021, and was a finalist for the winter award in 2020.
