JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Lincoln student-athletes swept the High Point Awards at the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Emporia State University on Saturday and Sunday (May 7-8).
Reuben Nichols was named the Men's High Point Scorer for the meet while
Kelly-Ann Beckford was named the Women's High Point Scorer.
Both of LU's outdoor track & field teams finished in third place overall, leading to the Blue Tiger men currently being ranked No. 7 in the country and the Lincoln women ranked No. 9.
Nichols posted the fastest time in the country by an NCAA Division II athlete in the 400m, winning the event with a time of 46.15. That mark also stands as a new MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet record. Nichols was also the victor of the 200m with a time of 20.94, and helped Lincoln's 4x400m relay squad win in 3:10.65. In addition to those three victories, Nichols was a member of Lincoln's 4x100m relay squad, which was the meet's runner-up after timing in at 40.30.
Beckford also had a record-breaking performance at the MIAA Championships, breaking the meet record with her winning time of 2:06.41. Beckford also won the 1500m in 4:33.44, and helped LU's 4x400m relay squad break the stadium record with a winning mark of 3:38.77.
