JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Lincoln's men's and women's indoor track & field teams will open the 2021-22 season on Saturday (Dec. 4) in Lawrence, Kan., as the Blue Tigers will compete in the University of Kansas-hosted Bob Timmons Challenge.
The LU men finished the 2020-21 indoor campaign with a seventh-place showing at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. Lincoln was bolstered by a pair of stellar performances by
Kizan David, who claimed the national title in the long jump and was the national runner-up in the triple jump. David, who was named the MIAA Winter Male Student-Athlete of the Year for his efforts last season, returns for his senior year in indoor track & field.
Lincoln returns three other All-Americans in
Kewani Campbell,
Jahnaza Francis and
Reuben Nichols, each of whom were members of Lincoln's 4x400m relay squad, which placed fourth at the NCAA Championships.
Shemar Fletcher is also back after posting an eighth-place finish in the 400m at the 2021 MIAA Indoor Championships.
The Lincoln women's indoor track & field team has four returners who earned All-American status at the 2021 NCAA Division II Championships, including
Chrissani May, who received the status in both the 4x400m relay and the 800m. The Blue Tigers return two other members of that relay squad, which took fifth at the national championship meet, as
Maria Diamond and
Aliyah George are also back this season. Lincoln's other returning All-American in
Kelly-Ann Beckford, who claimed eighth in the 800m.
