THE TIP OFF:  The Lincoln women's basketball team opens GLVC play with a pair of home games this week. The Blue Tigers host Southwest Baptist in the first GLVC game of the season for both programs on Saturday (Nov. 29) at 1:00 p.m. CST. On Monday (Dec. 1), Lincoln will play Missouri S&T at 5:30 p.m. CST. The Blue Tigers split a pair of games last week, as Lincoln beat Harris Stowe, 82-45, before falling to Northwest Missouri, 61-50. LU won its only other home game of the young season, 66-48, over Haskell back on Nov. 17, and is seeking its first 2-0 start to a home slate since 2018-19. Both teams LU is facing this week won their season openers, but those have been their only victories of the season.
 
FAST BREAKS
- On Saturday, Lincoln and Southwest Baptist will play each other for the 44th time. SBU leads the all-time series, 33-10.
 
- The Bearcats won both meetings last season, including a 102-67 win in Bolivar and a 77-52 victory in Jefferson City.
 
- On Monday, Lincoln and Missouri S&T will meet for the 50th time. The Miners have a 37-12 lead in the all-time series.
 
- The Blue Tigers beat the Miners, 61-53, in Jason Gym in the final game of the 2024-25 season.
 
PREVIEWING THE BLUE TIGERS:  With 17.2 ppg., Laini Joseph has been Lincoln's top scorer this season, followed by Hallie Williamson with 13.6 ppg. Aaliyah Smith is averaging a team-high 6.5 rebounds while Joseph is close behind with 6.2 boards per game. Kennedy Jones averages 2.6 assists and 2.4 steals as well as 5.0 rebounds.
 
HEAD COACH ADDAE HOUSTON:  A 17-year coaching veteran with strong ties to Missouri, Houston is in his second season as the head coach of the Blue Tigers. Houston helped Division I Northwestern State record a .714 home winning percentage in 2023-24 following a successful four-year run as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Northwest Missouri.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Lincoln 82, Harris Stowe 45
Lincoln shot .492 overall and .500 from three-point land to beat Harris Stowe, 82-45, in a battle of the state of Missouri's two HBCU programs on Nov. 20 in St. Louis. Bella Borgos led Lincoln with 23 points and Laini Joseph scored 17 to go with a team-high eight rebounds. Aaliyah Smith added nine points while Isis Sanders & Hallie Williamson each scored eight.
 
Northwest Missouri 61, Lincoln 50
The Blue Tigers had the lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Bearcats used a big scoring run to win, 61-50, in Maryville, Mo. on Saturday (Nov. 22). Laini Joseph led Lincoln with 21 points and grabbed six rebounds to go with two assists, a pair of steals and a block. Aaliyah Smith led LU with 10 rebounds and chipped in seven points.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS:  Ida Lusadisu-N'Gonda is leading Southwest Baptist with 12.5 points per game while Tinu Fakunle is next on the scoring list with 9.5 points per contest. The leading rebounder is Nahia Esnaola Agaen, who tallies 6.8 boards and 8.3 points per game. As a team, SBU has been outscored by a slim average margin of 70-67.8 points per contest.
 
SBU HEAD COACH WYKETHA HARRELL:  The third-year head coach of Southwest Baptist is 20-38 with the Bearcats. Harrell spent eight years as the associate head coach at NCAA Division I New Orleans, highlighted by one of the longest home winning streaks in program history. She also worked at DI schools Kent State and UMKC.
 
SCOUTING THE MINERS:  Missouri S&T has been excellent on the glass, out-rebounding its opponents 41.7-35.7 through three games. Norah Gum is averaging 12.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, the latter of which is a team-high. Ava McCulla is pulling down 8.0 rebounds per night while scoring 9.7 points, and Anna Gilbertson, who averages 11.3 points, is tallying 6.0 rebounds per game. The top scorer is Anna Finley with 15.3 points per night.
 
MST HEAD COACH KIRA CARTER:  In her sixth season as the head coach at Missouri S&T, Carter has helped the team improve every year, including posting a record above .500 for the first time in a decade in 2022-23. Carter spent two years on the staff at Sam Houston State and a season at Milwaukee, both of which are NCAA Division I programs.
 
SHOOTING STARS:  Laini Joseph leads the GLVC, and ranks 18th in Division II, with 81 field goal attempts this season. Joseph has made 29 field goals, rating her second in the league as well as 58th in the nation. Hallie Williams is fourth in the conference in made field goals with 25. She's averaging 13.6 points while Joseph averages 17.2, the second-most in the GLVC.
 
GOING FOR THREE:  Hallie Williamson leads the GLVC with 12 successful three-pointers and her .364 three-point percentage is the 10th-best in the conference. Laini Joseph has made 10 treys, the seventh-most in the league. Lincoln rates fourth in the GLVC in three-pointers per game (7.4) and Williamson ranks 35th nationally in total successful treys.
 
I'LL TAKE IT:  Kennedy Jones has been one of the best ball thieves in the country, as her 12 total steals rank her 69th in NCAA Division II. She is averaging 2.4 steals per contest, the third-most by any GLVC player. Jones, who is also averaging 5.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists, has had at least one steal in every games this season.
 
BALL CONTROL:  Lincoln has taken care of the ball, as LU has only had one performance this season in which it turned the ball over more times than its opponent. LU is averaging 14.0 turnovers per game, the fourth-fewest in the GLVC and the 34th-fewest in NCAA Division II. The Blue Tigers have the GLVC's third-best turnover margin of +4.6, and Lincoln is eighth in the league in steals with 8.2 per contest.
 
ROAD WARRIORS:  Most of Lincoln's games through the first two months of the season are on the road, as LU has just two home games in November and two in the month of December in 2025. After Monday, LU will be on the road until Dec. 18, when Lincoln closes the calendar year by hosting Missouri Western.
