Blue Tiger Rally Falls Just Short Against WJC


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to pull within two with three minutes to play, but William Jewell held on for a 67-60 win in Jason Gym on Thursday evening (Feb. 19).

Kaleah Toran and Bella Borgos each turned in double-doubles while Aaliyah Smith and Kiara Cabrera also reached double figures. The Blue Tigers held the Cardinals to .323 shooting overall and did not allow WJC to make a three-pointer during the second half. LU also held a 54-45 advantage in rebounding and forced 14 turnovers.

After falling behind 42-27 at the intermission, Lincoln (4-21, 2-16 GLVC) used a 9-2 run in the third period to bring the deficit back down to single digits, 47-39. A layup briefly gave William Jewell (1-22, 1-16 GLVC) a 10-point cushion, Aaliyah Smith made a pair of free throws and later hit a layup to help LU get back within six. Cabrera connected on a fast break layup to cut the WJC lead down to 49-45, and the Blue Tigers ended the third quarter with 20 points compared to 11 for the Cardinals.

William Jewell briefly regained a 10-point lead early in the fourth, but a pair of free throws by Borgos sprung LU onto an 8-1 run that made the score 58-55 with 4:51 to play. Lincoln would later get a jumper from Hallie Williamson to pull within 60-58 of the Cardinals entering the contest's final three minutes, but the Cardinals prevented the Blue Tigers from tying the game. William Jewell made seven free throws down the stretch to escape with the victory.

Toran led LU with 16 points and collected 10 rebounds while tallying four steals and a block. Borgos finished with 11 points points, an assist and a team-leading 11 rebounds. Cabrera and Aaliyah Smith each collected eight boards, with Cabrera supplying 13 points and an assist. Aaliyah Smith, meanwhile, scored 12 points and blocked three shots.

Williamson scored five points, pulled down five rebounds and a blocked a shot. Taelyn Smith rounded out the scoring for the Blue Tigers with three points and three boards. Kennedy Jones had a takeaway to go with four rebounds, and Isis Sanders closed out LU with an assist and a rebound.

Lincoln closes its 2025-26 home slate on Saturday (Feb. 21) by hosting Rockhurst at 1:00 p.m. CST. It will be Senior Day for the Blue Tigers, with a special ceremony planned after the game to honor LU's graduating players.
