INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After helping the Lincoln men's soccer team earn its first two conference victories of the season, junior midfielder
Kevon Maitland was selected as the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week. The league office announced the honor on Monday (Sept. 23).
Maitland scored twice in fewer than four minutes in Lincoln's victory over Drury, a team that entered the weekend receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' Division II poll, on Friday evening (Sept. 20). Maitland's goals were the second and third of the contest as the Blue Tigers took advantage of the early momentum to secure a 7-0 win. On Sunday (Sept. 22), Maitland had another goal to help LU beat Southwest Baptist on the road, 5-0.
For the week, Maitland attempted four shots, with all three of his shots on goal getting past the keeper. Maitland's play helped LU improve to 3-1-1 overall and 2-1 against GLVC opponents.
Maitland becomes the first Blue Tiger ever to be named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week. He is also the second player in program history to be honored as one of the league's players of the week, joining goalkeeper
Vincent Osei, who was named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9.
Lincoln will be on the road for its next match, traveling to St. Louis, Mo. to take on Missouri-St. Louis on Friday (Sept. 27) at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
