JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln Open proved to be a huge success for the LU women's outdoor track & field team, as the Blue Tigers won 10 events at their home meet on Saturday (April 6).
Doreen Onchangu won both the 800m (2:23.64) and 1500m (4:58.38) events, and
Monae Carey led three Blue Tigers in the top-eight of the 200m with the winning time of 25.20.
Denita Jackson (25.22) was the runner-up of the 200m while
Nattesha Palmer (26.55) placed fifth,
Ellis Cohen (26.63) claimed sixth and
Nehlia Mills (27.02) came in eighth.
Shantae George was the champion of the 100m dash with a time of 11.61 while Carey (11.99) took second, Aaliyannah Anderson (12.09) finished in third and Jackson (12.51) placed sixth. In the 400m dash, it was Shaneal Clarke-Giddings winning in 56.14 and Palmer taking second in 58.38.
Anderson (14.98) and
Shanette Allison (14.99) swept the top-two of the 100m hurdles while
Odeshia Nanton (1:00.57) and
Shevanae Thomas (1:02.13) swept the top-two of the 400m hurdles. Lincoln also swept the top-two in the 4x400m relay, with the team of Thomas, Clarke-Giddings, George and Nanton clocking in at 3:44.27 to win the event. The foursome of Jackson, Onchangu, Palmer and Cohen came in second in 4:02.31.
The Blue Tigers wrapped up the track events by taking both first and third in the 4x100m relay. The squad of Jackson, Carey, Thomas and Anderson won after clocking in at 47.35. The team of Allison, Cohen, Mills and
Ray-Donna Lee, meanwhile, timed in at 51.43 to finish in third.
In the field events, Mills was the winner of the high jump with a height of 1.60m while Cohen and
Talia Thomas each had heights of 1.55m.
Shamar-Kay Fable was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 5.14m.
Up next for the Blue Tigers is the John Jacobs Invitational, hosted by the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. on Friday and Saturday (April 12-13).
