FAYETTE, Mo. - The Lincoln women's outdoor track & field team opened its 2024 campaign in winning fashion on Saturday (March 30), earning seven victories at the Central Methodist University Invitational.
Monae Carey was the victor in both the 100m (12.13) and 200m (25.63) events.
Denita Jackson was the runner-up in the former, timing in at 12.28, and Aaliyannah Anderson claimed fourth in the 200m, clocking in at 26.27. Carey, Jackson and Anderson also teamed with
Shevanae Thomas to finish in first place in the 4x100m relay with a time of 48.61. In the 4x400m relay, the foursome of Thomas, Shaneal Clarke-Giddings,
Abigail Brooks and
Odeshia Nanton posted the winning time of 3:42.35.
Annalisa Barclay was the winner of the triple jump with a distance of 12.22m, and, in the high jump,
Ellis Cohen and
Nehlia Mills each posted heights of 1.55m. Nanton won the 400m hurdles in 1:01.99 while Thomas (1:03.37) and Jackson (1:10.80) respectively claimed second and fifth. In the 100m hurdles,
Shanette Allison (15.05) placed third and Anderson (15.29) came in fourth.
Clarke-Giddings had LU's other win of the day, emerging as the champion of the 400m dash with a time of 55.47. Brooks (58.30) placed second in that event and
Nattesha Palmer (58.56) took third. Doreen Onchangu, meanwhile, placed third in the 800m (2:20.88) and fourth in the 1500m (4:56.52).
The Blue Tigers will continue the outdoor season next Saturday (April 6) by hosting the Lincoln Open at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
