TOPEKA, Kan. - The Lincoln women's indoor track & field team scored 49 points to take seventh place while the LU men's indoor track & field team finished in ninth with 36 points at the MIAA Championships, hosted by Washburn University on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 24-25).
The Blue Tiger women's 4x400m relay team consisting of
Shevanae Thomas,
Shaneal Clarke Giddings,
Shantae George and
Odeshia Nanton won in 3:40.84, a new MIAA record. George was the runner-up in the 60m dash, timing in at 7.37, and placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 24.13. Thomas placed eighth in the latter event, clocking in at 25.13.
Thomas (55.59) and Nanton (55.68) respectively came in fourth and fifth in the 400m while
Abigail Brooks clocked in at 1:24.82 to finish in fifth in the 600-yard.
Annalisa Barclay took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.45m. Clarke Giddings checked in at sixth in the 800m (2:13.83) and
Shanette Allison placed sixth in the 60m hurdles (8.80).
In the men's 600-yard run,
Kewani Campbell (1:11.42) and
Donovan Bruce (1:11.43) respectively placed second and third. Campbell,
Sharim Hamilton,
Leondre Francis and
Shanthamoi Brown teamed up to take third in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:13.82, and
Malik Drummond finished the triple jump with a mark of 14.90m to take fifth. Hamilton, meanwhile, came in seventh in the 400m after timing in at 49.40.
Both Blue Tiger track & field teams will now wait to see how many entries they will have into the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held in Pittsburg, Kan. on March 8-9.
