THE TIP OFF:  After being on the road for its last four contests, the Lincoln women's basketball team returns to Jason Gym this week for its first two home GLVC games in program history. Lincoln, which is in its first season as a full member of the GLVC, plays Lewis on Thursday (Dec. 5) at 5:30 p.m. CST. On Saturday (Dec. 7), the Blue Tigers are back at home to host Upper Iowa in a 1:00 p.m. CST contest. The Blue Tigers dropped each of the first four road games of the season, but are 1-0 in Jason Gym after winning their season-opener, 58-42, over Harris Stowe on Nov. 13. Lewis, meanwhile, is 5-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play after beating Indianapolis on the road, 68-41, on Monday (Dec. 2). Upper Iowa, which beat Quincy, 88-84, on Monday, is 1-0 in the league and 3-2 overall.

FAST BREAKS
- In addition to being the first home GLVC game in the history of Lincoln women's basketball, Thursday will also be the first time that the Blue Tigers have ever played Lewis since joining the NCAA in 1981.

- On Saturday, Lincoln and Upper Iowa will meet for the third time. The Blue Tigers won both of the previous two meetings.

- The Blue Tigers beat Upper Iowa on the road, 67-59, in 2017-18, and defeated the Peacocks in Jefferson City, 73-48, in 2018-19.

PREVIEWING THE BLUE TIGERS:  Hanne Nybo recorded a double-double in Lincoln's first game of 2024-25, tallying 13 points and 12 rebounds in LU's win over Harris Stowe, and she leads LU with 7.8 rebounds per game while averaging 9.6 points. Ayreona Carter averages a team-high 12.0 points per night while pulling down 3.8 rebounds and Imani Harris is third on the scoring chart with 9.5 points per night. Biance Stocks tallies 5.6 points and 3.6 boards per game while Kiara Cabrera is averaging 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds.

HEAD COACH ADDAE HOUSTON:  A 17-year coaching veteran with strong ties to Missouri, Houston is in his first season as the head coach of the Blue Tigers. Houston helped DI Northwestern State record a .714 home winning percentage in 2023-24 following a successful four-year run as an assistant coach at Northwest Missouri, his alma mater. He was the head coach at Southwestern Community College from 2013-18, leading the team to its first postseason win in over a decade.

LAST TIME OUT
Washburn 80, Lincoln 55
The Blue Tigers shot .615 in the first quarter to take a 21-16 lead through the first 10 minutes, but a 48-point second half allowed Washburn to win, 80-55, in Topeka, Kan. on Nov. 25. Ayreona Carter led Lincoln with 19 points, as she shot .700 from the floor and went 5-for-7 at the line. Hanne Nybo added nine points and six rebounds while Chase Giddings finished with eight points. Isis Sanders dished a team-high three assists.

Missouri Western 94, Lincoln 52
Missouri Western eclipsed 20 points in each of the game's four quarters and defeated Lincoln, 94-52, in St. Joseph, Mo. on Nov. 26. Hanne Nybo and Imani Harris each scored 13 points to lead the Blue Tigers, Kennedy Jones grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and Isis Sanders, who scored six points, led LU with four assists. Chase Giddings finished with four points and two steals while Biance Stocks and Ayreona Carter each had five points.

Southwest Baptist 102, Lincoln 67
Lincoln scored 43 points in the second half, but a huge first quarter in which Southwest Baptist scored 30 points proved too tough to overcome as the Blue Tigers fell to the Bearcats, 102-67, this past Saturday (Nov. 30) in Bolivar, Mo. Ayreona Carter led Lincoln with 17 points, three blocks and two steals while Biance Stocks had 10 points and Imani Harris was next with eight. Hanne Nybo led LU with seven rebounds.

Missouri S&T 70, Lincoln 49
Lincoln forced Missouri S&T into 16 turnovers, but the Miners shot .413 from the floor and held LU to .280 shooting as the Blue Tigers dropped a 70-49 decision in Rolla, Mo. on Monday (Dec. 2). Imani Harris scored 13 points to lead Lincoln and Hanne Nybo came close to a double-double, as she recorded nine points and 10 rebounds. Kiara Cabrera provided six points and six boards and Cassidy Gladney had four rebounds while Harris led LU with four steals.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS:  Lewis boasts a very balanced scoring attack, led by Taylor Gugliuzza with 13 points per night. Three other players are averaging close to 10 points per game, including Ally Cesarini (9.7 ppg.), Jenna Badali (9.8) and Yahaira Bueno (9.8), while Cierra McNamee is close behind at 8.8 points per contest. McNamee leads Lewis with a 6.2 rebounding average.

LU HEAD COACH KEISHA NEWELL:  A two-time Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year, Newell is in her third season as the head coach at Lewis. Last season was an historic one for Newell, as she led the Flyers to a 23-9 record as well as both the GLVC tournament and regular season championships. In her third year at Lewis, Newell has guided the program to a 49-21 record. Before joining the Flyers, she won 41 games in a three-year stint as the head coach at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School, and she was the head coach at Roosevelt College from 2015-19.

SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS:  Mia Huberty is off to an outstanding start in 2024-25, averaging 22.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists through five games. Kayla Bohr is averaging 11.4 points and Helen Staley, who averages 7.2 points, leads UIU in both rebounding (9.4) and assists (4.4). Ava Privet tallies 7.6 points per game and leads the team with eight steals while Lindsey Davis averages 7.8 points.

UIU HEAD COACH JUSTIN MAASS:  The third-year coach of the Peacocks joined Upper Iowa after a successful three-year tenure as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Morehead State. At UIU, Maass has notched 28 wins, the biggest of which was a victory over McKendree, which was seeded second, in the GLVC tournament for the first postseason win in program history last year.

HOME FOR DECEMBER:  The Blue Tigers had a tough start to the season, playing four of their first five games on the road. Lincoln will get to enjoy more home cooking in December, as each of its next three games, as well as four of its six contests this month, will be inside Jason Gym.
