INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After turning in strong performances against NCAA Division I competition at the Nebraska Early Bird this past weekend, Lincoln sprinters
Emmanuel Rwotomiya and
Britney Brown were selected as GLVC Athletes of the Week. Rwotomiya was named the GLVC Men's Track Athlete of the Week while Brown was selected as the GLVC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday (Dec. 18).
Rwotomiya was responsible for two of Lincoln's three victories at the Early Bird, including in the 400m, which he won with a provisional-qualifying time of 48.18. That mark currently stands as the second-fastest among GLVC athletes as well as the sixth-quickest in NCAA Division II. Rwotomiya, who also had a third-place showing in the 200m (21.74), also teamed with
Sharim Hamilton,
Reuben Nichols and
Kewani Campbell to win the 4x400m relay in 3:15.73, a time that leads the GLVC and ranks second in the country.
Brown also won the 400m at the Early Bird, clocking in at 55.64, a provisional-qualifying mark that is currently seventh in the nation as well as the best in the GLVC. In the 4x400m relay, Brown teamed with
Maria Diamond,
Shaneal Clarke Giddings and
Shevanae Thomas to win in 3:44.55, which is the third-fastest time in Division II and the second-quickest in the conference.
Rwotomiya and Brown become the first two Blue Tigers ever to be named GLVC Track Athletes of the Week. Lincoln joined the conference as a full member in July.
Both of Lincoln's indoor track & field teams are off until Friday, Jan. 24, when both programs head to Pittsburg, Kan. to compete in the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational, hosted by Pittsburg State University.
