Â
THE KICKOFFÂ
It's senior day for the Lincoln football team, which closes its 2024 season on Saturday (Nov. 16) with a 12:00 p.m. CST home game against the current GLVC leader, Indianapolis. A special ceremony will be held on Saturday to recognize Lincoln's graduating players.
Â
The Blue Tigers are coming off a hard-fought loss to Lane last Saturday (Nov. 9). Lincoln led early and had chances late in the contest to get back on top, but LU eventually fell to the Dragons, 41-28. Lincoln is playing to end the season with a win for the first time since 2013.
Â
Indianapolis has been leading the GLVC for most of the season, as the Greyhounds are 9-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play. Indianapolis currently is ranked 14th in the American Football Coaches Association's Division II poll and have won six in a row, with the Greyhounds' only loss being a 28-24 decision against Saginaw Valley State.
Â
QUICK HITSÂ
- Lincoln and Indianapolis are meeting for the seventh time in a series that dates back to 1983, when UIndy was known as Indiana Central. The Greyhounds have won each of the previous six meetings.
Â
- These teams last met in 2018 with the Greyhounds, then ranked No. 22 in the country, earning a 41-17 victory in Indianapolis, Ind.
Â
- Indianapolis, which enters the week ranked No. 14, is the only ranked opponent Lincoln faces in 2024.
Â
- A victory for Lincoln would give the Blue Tiger multiple wins in a season for the first time since 2018.
Â
- Lincoln is playing for multiple home wins in a season for the first time since 2014, when the Blue Tigers beat both Quincy and Texas College. The Blue Tigers earned a 40-14 victory against Lincoln (CA) in Reed Stadium on Oct. 5.
Â
- A win would be the first for the Blue Tigers in the month of November since ending 2013 with back-to-back wins.
Â
- Lincoln is the only GLVC program that started the 2024 campaign with four-consecutive league games.
Â
- The Blue Tigers enter this weekend with an all-time record of 262-505-25.
Â
-
Moses Harper was named the head coach of the Lincoln football team in 2024. He is in his first season leading the Blue Tigers and has both an overall and program record of 1-9 entering this week.
Â
- Lincoln, which was a full member of the MIAA for 26 years (overall), is joining the GLVC in 2024. The Blue Tigers, who were an associate member of the GLVC from 2014-18, have played in five different conferences in their 92-year history: the Midwest Athletic Association (MWAA), the Great Lakes Football Conference (GLFC), the Central States Football League (CSFL), the GLVC and the MIAA.
Â
- This is the 93rd season of Lincoln football. The Blue Tigers first fielded a team in 1920 and played every year until 1943, when Lincoln took a year off due to World War II. LU then played each season from 1944-1989. The football program was disbanded at that point, but was brought back in 2000. Lincoln did not play a full schedule in 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
