THE KICK OFF:  The Blue Tigers are back in Jefferson City this weekend as the Lincoln men's soccer team hosts a pair of GLVC opponents at Jefferson City High School Soccer Field. On Friday (Oct. 18), the Blue Tigers take on Upper Iowa at 7:30 p.m. CDT. Lincoln remains at home on Sunday (Oct. 20) to host Lewis in a 2:30 p.m. CDT match. These matches will be part of a busy weekend at Lincoln, as the LU women's soccer team plays matches before each men's soccer game while LU's football team hosts Upper Iowa on Saturday (Oct. 19).
 
QUICK KICKS
- The Blue Tigers ended a three-game skid on Sunday (Oct. 13) with a 1-0 victory over Illinois-Springfield on the road.
 
- Upper Iowa, which has three ties on the season, got its first victory of 2024 on Sunday, as the Peacocks defeated Southwest Baptist at home, 2-0.
 
- Lewis is unbeaten in GLVC play, owning a 5-0-3 mark vs. conference compatition, and has only dropped one match in 2024.
 
PREVIEWING THE BLUE TIGERS:  Vincent Osei has played 585 minutes in goal and has made 11 saves to go with two complete match shutouts and one combined shutout, shared with Jadiel Chance. Antwone Gooden has recorded eight saves and two starts with one shutout. On offense, Shandee Brooks and Kevon Maitland each have four goals, Christopher Hull has three goals and an assist and Jonas Mueller has added a team-high three assists. Eugeni Yague, Hadri Lopez and Ackeem Mullings each have scored two goals.
 
HEAD COACH SAMMY SAMUELS:  A proven winner, Sammy Samuels is in his first season as the head coach of the Lincoln men's soccer team. Samuels coached 13 All-Americans and posted a 53-12-8 record during five seasons as the head coach at Maine-Fort Kent. During that span he won the 2022 USCAA national championship and finished as the national runner-up in both 2019 and 2021.
 
PREVIOUS RESULTS
Indianapolis 2, Lincoln 1
Indianapolis scored in the ninth minute and then again in the 49th to beat the Blue Tigers, 2-1, in Indianapolis, Ind. on Friday (Oct. 11). Lincoln cut the deficit in half on Albert Kemeh's goal just 37 seconds after the Greyhounds' second score, and had a few quality chances at the equalizer, but was kept off the board the rest of the contest. Brady Charles led the Blue Tigers with three shots and Kemeh finished with two.
 
Lincoln 1, Illinois-Springfield 0
After 69 minutes of scoreless soccer, Lincoln scored the only goal of the afternoon on shot by Eugeni Yague off a pass by Guilherme Goncalves Capaldi to earn a 1-0 victory on the road against Illinois-Springfield on Sunday (Oct. 13). The Blue Tigers allowed the Prairie Stars to attempt only two shots on goal, both of which were saved by Antwone Gooden. Albert Kemeh had four shots overall and three on the net.
 
SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS:  Daigo Adachi, Emir Basar and Alejandro Sanchez each have three assists on the season while five other Upper Iowa players have one assist each. The top scorer is Julian Mesen with three goals, Daniel Pranger has two and eight other Peacocks are next with one apiece. JJ Gonzalez-Hayes has allowed 16 goals and made 36 saves in seven starts in the net while Diogo Cardoso has 16 saves.
 
SCOUTING THE FLYERS:  Lewis has 16 goals on the season and has allowed just nine as the Flyers have five wins, six ties and one goal entering this weekend. Arturs Gorodnickis leads the Flyers with five goals while Cristian Perez has scored two goals to go with three assists. Godwin Asore also has two goals on the year while both Justin Dalarge and Mike Revell have a pair of assists. In the goal, keeper Sebastian Doppelhofer has played all 1,080 minutes and made 34 saves.
 
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:  Two Blue Tigers have earned GLVC Player of the Week awards this season. The first was Vincent Osei, who was named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week after blanking Lee in Lincoln's first game in over 20 years. After a big offensive week in which LU outscored its opponents 12-0, Kevon Maitland was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24
 
ONE ON ONE:  Lincoln has played very tough defensively as the Blue Tigers have allowed more than one goal in just two contests, with one of those games featuring two penalty kicks. Lincoln nationally ranks 38th in goal differential (+10), 16th in goals against (.800) and 36th in shutout percentage (.400).
 
NATIONAL NOTABLES:  Vincent Osei has the 11th-best goals against average (.615) in Division II and Christopher Hull is 38th in game-winning goals (two). As a team, LU is 57th nationally in scoring offense (1.8), 65th in corner kicks (5.1) and 65th in total goals (18).
 
GOOOOOOAAAALLL!:  With 18 goals on the season, the Blue Tigers have been the GLVC's third-best offense in 2024. Only McKendree (21 goals) and Indianapolis (19) have scored more goals than Lincoln.
