THE TIP OFF: 
The Lincoln women's basketball team is back in Jason Gym this week to host a pair of MIAA teams in LU's first home games of 2024. On Thursday (Jan. 11), Lincoln hosts Emporia State at 5:30 p.m. CST. Last season, the Blue Tigers swept Emporia State, which enters the week 7-6 overall and 4-3 in league play. Then, on Saturday (Jan. 13), Lincoln hosts Washburn at 1:00 p.m. CST. The Ichabods are 10-3 on the season as well as 5-2 in the conference. Lincoln will try to win consecutive home games, as, the last time LU was in Jason Gym, the Blue Tigers beat Evangel, 84-76, in overtime on Dec. 30.

FAST BREAKS

- The Blue Tigers and the Lady Hornets meet for the 38th time on Thursday, with Emporia State leading the series, 32-4.

- Two of Lincoln's victories against Emporia State came last season, as the Blue Tigers swept the year series over the Lady Hornets. Lincoln won in Emporia, Kan., 85-81, on Jan. 5. The Blue Tigers then beat Emporia State again on Senior Day, 75-71, on Feb. 18.

- Saturday marks the 35th meeting between Lincoln and Washburn.

- A win this weekend would be the first in the history of the program for Lincoln against Washburn, which beat LU twice in 2022-23.

PREVIEWING THE BLUE TIGERS: 
Leading the Blue Tigers in both scoring (16.0) and rebounding (8.0) is Ashlyn Alloway, who also has 21 steals and 14 blocks. Steph Torres averages 13.1 points as well as a team-high 2.8 assists while AJ Bradley is next on the scoring chart with 7.7 ppg. Imani Jones averages 7.3 points while Biance Stocks averages 5.1 points and 3.2 boards.

HEAD COACH ANDREA MIZE: 
Andrea Mize is in her fourth year as the head coach at Lincoln after a successful two-year run at Central Florida College. In 2019-20, Mize led CFC to a 19-win year that included a victory in the first round of the FCSAA playoffs. Mize previously was an assistant at Martin Methodist, helping the program reach the NAIA national tournament three times.

LAST TIME OUT

Lincoln 84, Evangel 76 (OT)

Saniya Simmons scored nine points, all in overtime, as Lincoln beat Evangel, 84-76, on Dec. 30. Ashlyn Alloway scored a team-high 22 points and AJ Bradley added 20 points, with both players also tying for the team-high with six rebounds. Bradley also finished with four assists and three steals.

Nebraska Kearney 77, Lincoln 57

Nebraska Kearney outscored Lincoln 27-11 in the first quarter and held on for a 77-57 victory over the Blue Tigers on Thursday (Jan. 4). Three Blue Tigers scored in double figures, with Steph Torres leading the way with 17 points. Ashlyn Alloway added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds while Imani Jones finished with 12 points and six boards.

Fort Hays State 74, Lincoln 62

Lincoln gave Fort Hays State, the No. 16 team in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Division II poll, all it could handle, but a late run in the fourth quarter helped FHSU win, 74-62, in Hays, Kan. on Saturday (Jan. 6). Steph Torres had 22 points and six assists to lead Lincoln and Imani Jones finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

SCOUTING THE LADY HORNETS: 
Leading ESU is Faith Paramore, who averages 14.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals. The next-leading scorer is Queen Ulabo with 9.6 ppg. and 8.6 rpg. while Tylieeea Wallace and Gracie Gilpin each average 8.8 points.

ESU HEAD COACH BRIAN OSTERMANN: 
The first-year coach of the Lady Hornets came to ESU with 15 years of NCAA Division I experience, most recently serving as the associate head coach at Kansas State. Ostermann also worked at Texas Christian after spending nine years developing national top-25 teams at the junior college level.

SCOUTING THE ICHABODS: 
Washburn enters the week out-scoring opponents 75-9 to 59.9 and out-rebounding opponents 41.9 to 33.4. Aubree Dewey leads the Ichabods with 14.1 points and 5.8 assists per game while averaging 5.8 boards, and Yiibari Nwidadah, leads WU in rebounding with 9.7 per night, averages 13.7 points. Next on the scoring list is Aniah Wayne with 10.9 ppg.

WU HEAD COACH LORA WESTLING: 
One of the best players in Washburn history, Westling is in her second season as the head coach at WU. As a player, Westling helped the Ichabods win the 2005 NCAA Division II National title, and her 144 career three-pointers are still the sixth-most in program history. Westling came to Washburn from Western Colorado, where she won 77 games and led the team to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.

TOP-THREE:
AJ Bradley has excelled at getting to the line, as, in four years at Lincoln, she has attempted 401 free throws. Bradley has made 270 of those attempts and has moved into third place all-time in program history in total career made free throws. She passed Sheila Lee, who made 257 free throws between 2001-04. Bradley is now 29 free throws away from second place, held by Andrea Sykes, who made 298 shots at the line from 1995-99.

TORR DE FORCE:  Steph Torres, who leads Lincoln with 2.8 assists per game, has emerged as LU's second-leading scorer with 13.1 points per night. Torres has the MIAA's 13th-most assists (37) and her 32.0 minutes per game are the seventh-most in the league.

SHOOTING STAR: 
Ashlyn Alloway is shooting .545 from the field, a shooting percentage that ranks third in the MIAA and 33rd in NCAA Division II. Alloway has made 84 total field goals, the fourth-most by an MIAA player and the 47th-most in the country. Alloway, who also rates 69th nationally with 5.9 defensive rebounds per contest, also ranks in the top-100 in Division II in both scoring (16.0, 99th) and rebounding (8.0, 97th).

ALL-COURT ALLOWAY: 
Ashlyn Alloway leads the Blue Tigers on both sides of the court, emerging as LU's best player on both offense and defense. Alloway averages 16.0 points as well as 8.0 rebounds, both of which are team highs. Alloway is also making her presence on the court felt with 21 steals, 17 assists and 14 blocks, and she is shooting .545 overall and .455 from three-point range.
