THE TIP OFF:Â The Lincoln women's basketball team opens the home portion of its 2023-24 slate on Friday (No.v 17) when the Blue Tigers host Baptist Bible inside Jason Gym at 7:30 p.m. CST. Lincoln opened the season with a hard-fought win over Arkansas-Monticello at the Central Region Challenge in Magnolia, Ark. last Friday (Nov. 10). The Blue Tigers scored 43 second-half points en route to a 77-70 victory as LU opened a season with a win over UAM for the second-straight year. On Saturday (Nov. 11) Lincoln played Southern Arkansas tough, but a huge fourth quarter run helped the Muleriders beat the Blue Tigers, 81-62. Baptist Bible, a Division I member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, is 5-1 on the year heading into a Thursday night (Nov. 16) home game against Williams Baptist.
FAST BREAKS
- This will be the first-ever meeting between Lincoln and Baptist Bible, a NCCAA program located in Springfield, Mo.
- A win on Friday would be Lincoln's first victory in a home opener since beating Stephens, 79-34, in LU's first home game of 2018-19.
- A victory would make Lincoln 2-1 on the season for the first time since 2021-22.
- LU is in its final season as a member of the MIAA.
PREVIEWING THE BLUE TIGERS:Â Leading the Blue Tigers in both scoring (17.5) and rebounding (8.0) is Ashlyn Alloway, who also has three steals and three blocks. Steph Torres averages 14.5 points as well as a team-high 4.5 assists while Hanne Nybo is next on the scoring chart with 10.0 ppg. Saniya Simmons had nine points, four assists, four steals and five rebounds in the season opener, and Tatiana Beaumont averages 6.5 points.
HEAD COACH ANDREA MIZE:Â Andrea Mize is in her fourth year as the head coach at Lincoln after a successful two-year run at Central Florida College. In 2019-20, Mize led CFC to a 19-win year that included a victory in the first round of the FCSAA playoffs. Mize previously was an assistant at Martin Methodist, helping the program reach the NAIA national tournament three times.

Lincoln 77, Arkansas-Monticello 70
Lincoln pulled away in the second half for a 77-70 win over Arkansas-Monticello in the first game of the season for both teams on Friday (Nov. 10). LU was led offensively by Ashlyn Alloway, who had a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards. Hanne Nybo added 15 points while Steph Torres scored 11 while dishing five assists.
Southern Arkansas 81, Lincoln 62
Southern Arkansas outscored Lincoln 26-12 in the fourth quarter to pull away for an 81-62 victory on Saturday night (Nov. 11). Steph Torres led Lincoln with 18 points and four assists, Ashly Alloway had 17 points and six rebounds, and AJ Bradley added nine points, four boards and two steals.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS:Â Three Baptist Bible players are averaging double digit points, led by Cassidy Hambelton with 18.8 per contest. Josie Sullivan averages 14.8 points while Abby Woolsey is next with 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds, the team high. Hambelton also leads the Patriots in steals (3.0) and assists (4.0) while Brooklyn Luna tallies 3.0 assists per contest.
BBC HEAD COACH MADI WALLACE:Â In her second season as the head coach at Bible Baptist, Wallace has the Patriots off to a 5-1 start after the team won 10 games in 2022-23. Wallace, an NAIA Academic All-American as a player at Evangel, coached at the high school level before being named the head coach at Baptist Bible.
TOP-FOUR: AJ Bradley has excelled at getting to the line, as, in four years at Lincoln, she has attempted 357 free throws. Bradley has made 245 of those attempts and has moved into fourth place all-time in program history in total career made free throws. She passed Shara Tauai, who made 244 free throws between 2001-04. Bradley is now 13 free throws away from third place, held by Sheila Lee, who made 257 shots at the line from 1982-85.
NATIONAL NOTES:Â The Blue Tigers average 31.5 defensive rebounds per game, the most in the MIAA and 26th-most in NCAA Division II. LU is 94th in total rebounds per game (40.0), but 239th in offensive rebounding (8.5). Lincoln is also leading the league while ranking 19th in the country in free throws attempted per game (28.5) as well as 68th in three point percentage (35.0).
INDIVIDUALLY:Â Ashlyn Alloway ranks 29th in Division II in double-doubles while Steph Torres is 42nd in minutes played (37.0). Torres, who has dished nine assists, is 73rd in the nation with 4.5 assists per contest and 46th in assist-to-turnover ratio (+4.5).
IT'S A CLASSIC:Â Next week, Lincoln plays in the Oasis Hotel & Convention Center Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by Drury University. On Tuesday (Nov. 21), the Blue Tigers play Truman State in Springfield, Mo. at 1:00 p.m. CST. Then, on the eve of Thanksgiving, Lincoln plays the host team on Wednesday (Nov. 22) at 5:30 p.m. CST. It is the second of two "classics" on the schedule, as Lincoln opened the season in Magnolia, Ark. at the Central Region Challenge (Nov. 10-11).
WELCOME BACK:Â Hanne Nybo missed the entire 2022-23 campaign after suffering a preseason injury, but she made the most of her return to the court in her LU debut. Nybo scored 15 points in Lincoln's neutral site win vs. Arkansas-Monticello on .667 shooting. Nybo made three of her six three-point attempts and also had five rebounds in 20 minutes of work.
ALL-COURT ALLOWAY:Â Ashlyn Alloway led the Blue Tigers on both sides of the court last weekend, emerging as LU's best player on both offense and defense. Alloway averaged 17.5 points in Lincoln's first two games as well as 8.0 rebounds, both of which are team highs. Alloway also made her presence on the court felt with three steals and three blocks.
DECEMBER TO REMEMBER:Â Lincoln will get to enjoy a lot of home cooking in December, as four of LU's five games that month will be played in the friendly confines of Jason Gym. The Blue Tigers, who have just one home game in November, open December at Central Oklahoma before playing four-straight games in Jefferson City.
