33 LU Newcomers Named to the MIAA Honor Roll


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced that 33 Lincoln freshmen and transfer student-athletes have been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Additionally, five Blue Tigers received the prestigious MIAA Academic Excellence Award, while five other Blue Tigers earned the MIAA Scholar Athlete Award.

Three members of the Lincoln's women's basketball team and two from the LU softball team were honored with the MIAA Academic Excellence Award, which is given to student-athletes who have completed at least two semesters at a member institution while maintaining a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average. Junior Mercy Gonzalez (a criminal justice major from Miami, Fla.) and sophomores Bailey Lewis (social work/Sanger, Texas) and Kelsey Mitchell (elementary education/Tipton, Ind.) were honored from the women's basketball team. Freshmen Aidan Dayberry (wellness/Pea Ridge, Ark.) and Jordan Galliher (agriculture/Hutchinson, Kan.) were the honorees from the softball team.

In addition to Gonzalez, Lewis and Mitchell, four other members of the Lincoln women's basketball team made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, an award bestowed upon student-athletes who have completed at least two semesters at a member institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Joining those three were freshman Kylie Bernskoetter (undecided/Jefferson City, Mo.) and sophomores Hya Haywood (business administration/Evansville, Ind.), Imani Jones (business administration/Sarasota, Fla.) and Kimora Pooler (wellness/Oxnard, Calif.). 

The Lincoln softball team had four members in addition to Dayberry and Galliher qualify for the MIAA Academic Honor Roll: Katie Blair (civil engineering/Tucson, Ariz.), Kori Bullard (civil engineering/Omaha, Neb.), Jalia Callaway (agriculture/Memphis, Tenn.) and Emma Rakes (wellness/Camdenton, Mo.). All four of those student-athletes are freshmen.

Five members of Lincoln's track & field teams earned the MIAA Scholar Athlete Award, which is awarded to student-athletes who have completed at least two semesters at a member institution, have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and who earned some form of all-league recognition during the previous season. Jamar Treasure and Troy Whyte, both of whom are freshmen business administration majors from Kingston, Jamaica, earned the award from the LU men's track & field team. Honorees from the women's track & field team included freshmen Anna Barclay (nursing/Linden, Guyana), Monae Carey (business administration/Deeside, Jamaica) and Shevanae Thomas (psychology/Manchester, Jamaica).

Tasrico Bell, a freshman business administration major from St. Mary, Jamaica, was additionally named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll from the men's team. Also representing the LU women's track & field team on the honor roll were freshmen Shanette Allison (physical education/Manchester, Jamaica), Shantae George (civil engineering/Georgetown, Guyana) and Nehlia Mills (nursing/Kingston, Jamaica).

Six members of the Lincoln football team made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, including sophomore Lamarr Spencer, a journalism major from Miami, Fla. Other honorees from the football program included Samuel Amituanai (criminal justice/Mapusagafou, American Samoa), Zamar Brake (physical education/Easton, Pa.), Tyler Duerbeck (undecided/St. Louis, Mo.), Daimon Jones (business administration/Indianapolis, Ind.) and Chris Parker (criminal justice/Choctaw, Okla.), all five of whom are freshmen.

Junior Destan Williams, a journalism major from St. Louis, Mo., was named to the MIAA Academic Honor roll from the LU men's basketball program. Freshmen Dedrick Harris II (business administration/Chesterfield, Mo.) and Remon Rabie (marketing/Pretoria, South Africa) represented the LU men's golf team on the list. Representing the Lincoln women's golf program were freshmen Elliott Hull (business administration/Jefferson City, Mo.) and Maria Villamil (psychology/Bogota, Colombia).
