KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced on Tuesday (Dec. 13) that Lincoln sprinter
Reuben Nichols was the league's first Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the 2022-23 season. Nichols was selected based in a vote of select conference sports information personnel based on his performances the first two weeks of the season.
Nichols won three events at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic this past Saturday (Dec. 10), including posting a time of 47.37 in the 400m that is currently the fastest in NCAA Division II. Nichols won the 200m in a meet-record time of 21.57 that leads the MIAA and rates seventh in Division II. He also was a member of the Blue Tigers' 4x400m relay team, which won in 3:12.50, also the fastest time in the country. On Dec. 3, Nichols claimed second in the 400m at the Bob Timmons Challenge, facing primarily NCAA Division I competition in both events.
This is the first career MIAA Track Athlete of the Week award for Nichols, a junior from Castries, St. Lucia.
