Kizan David posted a distance of 7.66m on his final leap of the afternoon to come in second in the long jump at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday (May 27). David scored eight points for the Lincoln men's track & field team, putting the program in seventh after the first day of competition.
David, who was the national champion of the long jump during indoor season, finished as the national runner-up with a leap that was .01m longer than the third-place distance of 7.65m. This marks the third All-American performance by David in 2022, as he was also the national runner-up in the indoor triple jump.
The LU men had two other athletes compete on Thursday, as Jahnaza Francis and Kewani Campbell each raced in the preliminaries of the 400m hurdles. Both athletes finished among the top-eight and will advance to the finals. Francis finished fourth in the prelims with a time of 52.36, and Campbell took seventh in 52.63.
On the women's side,
Maria Diamond had the fastest qualifying time in the preliminaries of the 400m hurdles, as she clocked in at 58.54.
Jameaka Mannings also competed in that event, just missing qualifying for the finals after timing in at 1:01.89.Â
The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State University, will resume on Friday (May 28).
