JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A fourth-straight game against a national top-25 team awaits the Lincoln women's basketball team on Saturday (Feb. 20), as the Blue Tigers are in Kearney, Neb. to take on Nebraska Kearney at 2:00 p.m. CST.
In its last four games, Lincoln has played then-ranked No. 25 Emporia State twice and most recently dropped a road decision to No. 8 Fort Hays State on Thursday evening (Feb. 18). Saturday's opponent is ranked No. 12 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Division II poll, as Nebraska Kearney is 16-3 on the season after losing a four-point game to Central Missouri on Thursday evening.
The Blue Tigers are sixth in the MIAA in scoring, averaging 64.7 points per contest, and are ranked 20th in NCAA Division II in steals with 156 on the season.
AJ Bradley has been proficient in both categories, averaging 12.7 points, the 16th-most in the league, and notching 37 steals, the 24th-most in the nation. Bradley currently leads all DII players in free throws attempted (156) and is second in free throws made (116), and her .744 free throw percentage rates as the 13th-best in the MIAA.
Niyah Jackson is Lincoln's top scorer with 14.5 points per contest, the 12th-most by an MIAA player this season, and is eighth in the league with 33 steals.
Vivian Chigbu is LU's top rebounder, ranking eighth in the conference in total rebounding (7.2), and she is second in the MIAA in offensive rebounding with 3.2 per game, a mark that also ranks 52nd in NCAA Division II. Also high in the national rankings is
Ashtin Ingram, who is seventh in the country in blocked shots (39) and 24th nationally in rejections per game (2.1).
Aliyah Bello is Lincoln's other main starter, and she is averaging 7.8 ppg. on .415 shooting.
Simone Jordan (7.0 ppg., 4.2 rpg.) and
Haylie Holloway (4.6 ppg., 2.5 rpg.) are LU's top reserves.
Elisa Backes leads Nebraska Kearney with 12.9 points per game, followed by Brooke Carlson (9.6 ppg.) and Haley Simental (7.8 ppg.). Klaire Kirsch averages 7.7 points and team-highs in rebounds (8.9) and assists (3.2). UNK is strong defensively, allowing opponents to score just 52.4 points per contest.
