Rafael Aguilar Joins LU Football as Offensive Line Coach

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Lincoln head football coach Jermaine Gales announced on Tuesday (Dec. 21) that Rafael Aguilar has joined his staff as the offensive line coach. Aguilar previously served as a graduate assistant coach at NCAA Division I programs Washington State and Hawai'i.

At Washington State this past year, Aguilar helped lead the Cougars to a 7-5 record and a berth in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. WSU had the Pac-12's second-best passing attack with 259.8 yard per game, and the Cougars scored 42 touchdowns while averaging 390.2 yards per contest. At Hawai'i in 2019, Aguilar helped the Rainbow Warriors achieve a 10-5 record that included a berth in the Mountain West Championship Game and a win over Brigham Young in the Sofi Hawai'i Bowl.

"Coach Rafael Aguilar is a master of his craft," Gales said. "He will bring plenty of energy and excitement to our program. His ability to develop offensive linemen is exactly what we need to help facilitate our progress in 2022."

Prior to his stints in Division I, Aguilar coached two seasons at American River College, working with offensive linemen, linebackers and tight ends. Aguilar also played two seasons at ARC after beginning his career on the offensive line at Northern Arizona, a DI program. In 2016, Aguilar returned to the Division I ranks to finish his playing career at Prairie View A&M.

Aguilar earned a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology, physical activity, conditioning and coaching from California State-Sacramento in 2018, and he is currently pursuing a Master of Education degree from Washington State.
