KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Thirty Lincoln student-athletes, representing five different programs, were honored by the MIAA when the league office announced its winter academic awards on Tuesday (April 9).
Grant Olsson, a senior on the men's basketball team, received all three of the conference's awards, as he earned the Academic Excellence Award and the Scholar Athlete Award while also being named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. The Academic Excellence Award is bestowed upon any student-athlete with a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 through at least two completed semesters at a league institution.
Six other Blue Tigers were both named to the Academic Honor Roll and earned the Scholar Athlete Award, which goes to any athlete who received All-MIAA recognition, has completed at least two semesters at a member institution, and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Senior
Nina Theroff was recognized from the LU bowling team, while senior Roberto Smith and sophomore Kizan David were honored from the men's indoor track & field program. Three members of the Lincoln women's indoor track & field team also earned the achievement, including seniors Renea Ambersley, Diana Cauldwell and Shanice Clarke.
Ten additional members of the LU women's indoor track & field team made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher through at least two full semesters at a league institution. Seniors Kissi-Ann Brown, Danielle James and Tajera Lawkin joined juniors Rusheda Blake, Segale Brown, Rene Medley, Christine Moss and Shaian Vandenburg on the list.
Senior Tempary Gunter and sophomore Faith Brintle were selected to the Academic Honor Roll for women's basketball, and sophomore
DeAsia Britton joined Theroff on the list for bowling. The men's basketball team had three other honorees besides Olsson in seniors John Burton and Darrius Spencer and junior Zack Fields.
Closing out Lincoln 2019 winter honorees were seven members of the men's indoor track & field team, including senior Stephen Rose. Junior Mohamed Kouyate joined sophomores Damaine Dixon, Ackeem Dozovado, Javan Gray, Tyrese Halls and Ouekie Wright on the Academic Honor Roll.
