Medley and Brown Named National Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Rene Medley and Ryan Brown made history this week, becoming the first Blue Tigers ever to be named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II National Athletes of the Week during indoor season. The USTFCCCA announced the honors on Tuesday morning (Dec. 17).

Medley had the quickest times in the nation in the 60m and the 200m last weekend after winning both events at the Hoosier Classic on Friday (Dec. 13). Medley's time of 24.21 would be the fastest by a DII athlete this season had she not already set a quicker mark of 23.81 during the first week of competition. Her time of 7.42, meanwhile, ranks Medley second in the nation in the 60m.

This is the second time Medley has been selected as USTFCCCA Division II National Athlete of the Week, as she claimed the honor during the 2019 outdoor season on April 16.

Brown also won multiple events at the Hoosier Classic, setting two of the best marks in the nation in the process. Brown took the long jump with a leap of 7.77m, and won the triple jump with a distance of 15.87m. Both of those marks are automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, and both distances lead all NCAA Division II athletes this season by at least six inches.
