SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Lincoln men's soccer team and Illinois-Springfield played to a 0-0 draw in the GLVC opener for both teams on Saturday night (Sept. 5).
Lincoln (1-0-2, 0-0-1 GLVC) dominated play in the offensive zone with 18 total shot attempts, eight of which were on goal. Defensively, the Blue Tigers prevented Illinois-Springfield (0-2-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) from getting any quality looks at the net, as LU held the Prairie Stars to just two shots, neither of which were on the net.
Vincent Osei played all 90 minutes in goal and secured his first shutout of the season.
Jerome Lawel had a team-high five shot attempts, two of which were on goal.
Jonathan Nemorden finished with three shots on the net while
Nicholas Asante had two. The other shot on goal belonged to
Junior Grizzelle, who had two shots overall.
Makwe Nkoana attempted two shots on the night for LU.
Kanye Francis,
Pedro Gomes,
Shadrack Eshun and
Haru Ito attempted one shot apiece.
Lincoln will play its 2026 home opener on Wednesday (Sept. 9) at Capital City High School against McKendree at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
