Blue Tigers Get Second-Straight Shutout With 3-0 Win Over WJC

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's soccer team picked up its second-straight shutout victory on Wednesday (Sept. 30), beating William Jewell, 3-0, at Capital City High School.

Reigning GLVC Defensive Player of the Week Felipe Mattos earned his fourth shutout of the season, and he was bolstered by an impenetrable Blue Tiger defense that never allowed the Cardinals a good look at the net. LU held WJC to only four shot attempts, all of which went wide of the net.

On the other side of the ball, reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Week scored his third goal in the past two matches in the 10th minute of the contest, and that ended up being the game-winner for Lincoln, which improved to 5-0-3 overall and 4-0-2 against GLVC competition. The score remained 1-0 until the 78th minute, when Shadrack Eshun scored an unassisted goal to give the Blue Tigers a 2-0 lead over William Jewell (2-7-1, 1-5-1 GLVC).

The Blue Tigers added one more insurance goal in the 85th minute. Nemorden stole the ball and passed it to Pedro Gomes, who immediately kicked it to Makwe Nkoana, who shot it past the keeper. Lincoln ended the evening with 13 total shots, six of which were on the goal.

Nemorden finished with four shots overall and two on the net while Eshun and Junior Grizzelle each added two attempts and one on goal. Conroy Nicely also had a shot on the net, and Jerome Lawel, Nathan Quashie and Gomes also had one attempt apiece.

Lincoln remains at home to host Lewis at Capital City High School on Saturday (Oct. 3) at 2:30 p.m. CDT.
