JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - For the fourth match in a row, the Lincoln men's soccer team scored three goals, as the Blue Tigers beat Lewis, 3-1, on Saturday (Oct. 3) at Capital City High School.
The win was the third in a row for Lincoln, which extended its unbeaten start to the season by improving to 6-0-3 overall and 5-0-2 in GLVC play. Lewis, meanwhile, fell to 2-7-2 overall and 1-6-2 in the conference.
The Blue Tigers opened the scoring in the 21st minute when
Makwe Nkoana took a pass from
Jonathan Nemorden and did a nifty backwards spin kick to send the ball past the keeper. The Flyers responded quickly, however, as a header in the 26th minute found its mark, making it a 1-1 contest at the half.
Just under five minutes into the second half, Nemorden scored what proved to be the game-winner off by heading in a pass from
Santiago Pineda. Nkoana later notched his second goal of the match in the 64th minute, and the Blue Tiger defense kept the Flyers out of the net for the entire 45 minute period.
Nkoana had three shots on goal, Nemorden had two total shots, and Pineda finished with three attempts, two of which were on the net.
Jerome Lawel notched an assist on Lincoln's final goal of the contest while
Nathan Quashie also had a shot attempt.
Felipe Mattos made one save while earning the win in the goal.
Lincoln closes out its three-match homestand by hosting Missouri-St. Louis at Capital City High School on Wednesday night (Oct. 7) at 7:30 p.m. CT.
