Jonathan Nemorden scored twice and
Alysson Portela Barboza also had a goal as the Lincoln men's soccer team shut out Rockhurst, 3-0, on Wednesday night (Sept. 23).
Felipe Mattos made five saves while picking up his third shutout victory of the season. Nemorden led Lincoln (4-0-3, 3-0-2 GLVC) with four shots on goal while he and
Jerome Lawel each had five total shots. Lawel also recorded an attempt on the goal.
Both of Nemorden's goals were unassisted, with the first coming in the 34th minute after a ricocheted shot by
Makwe Nkoana. LU led Rockhurst (3-4-2, 2-2-2 GLVC) 1-0 at halftime, then doubled its goal total on Portela Barboza's shot in the 54th minute.
Nicholas Asante had the assist on LU's second goal of the evening.
In the 89th minute, Nemorden added an insurance goal after taking the ball downfield following a missed shot by the Hawks. The Blue Tigers posted 17 total shot attempts, including three by
Nathan Quashie and one apiece from
Junior Grizzelle and
Ackeem Mullings.
The Blue Tigers will return home next Wednesday (Sept. 30) to host William Jewell at Capital City High School at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
