Blue Tigers Beat Harris Stowe, 3-2

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's soccer team led for much of the contest as the Blue Tigers beat Harris Stowe, 3-2, in a battle between Missouri's two HBCU programs on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 30).

Just 2:19 into the contest, Shareina Langevine passed the ball to Natalie Bevan, who found an opening past the diving goalkeeper to give the Blue Tigers a 1-0 lead. Lincoln (1-1) held a dominant 16-4 advantage in total shots, and also led Harris Stowe (2-2) in shots on goal, 10-4.

Early in the second half, the Hornets tied the game on an unassisted goal, but the Blue Tigers responded in a big way. In the 75th minute, Madison Wimberly found Mia Greathouse in front of the net, and Greathouse kicked it into the back corner to give the lead back to LU. Then, in the 78th minute, Sofia Valdivia scored on a long shot to give the Blue Tigers a 3-1 advantage.

Bevan finished with four total shots, including three on the goal, and Vanessa Dagher added two shots on the net and four overall. TeTee Jallah had two shots on goal on three total attempts, Leah Serritos attempted a shot and Wimberly recorded a shot on goal. Kristin Oliver got the win in the net and made two saves.

Lincoln will open GLVC play on the road on Saturday (Sept. 5) as the Blue Tigers travel to Springfield, Ill. to take on Illinois-Springfield at 3:00 p.m. CDT.
