TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Lincoln men's soccer team picked up its first win of 2026 in shutout fashion, blanking Northeastern State, 1-0, on Sunday night (Aug. 30).
After a scoreless first half,
Pedro Gomes found the back of the net off a pass from
Makwe Nkoana. Gomes kicked the ball past the goalkeeper on the lower left side to help Lincoln improve to 1-0-1 on the season.Â
The Blue Tigers had six shots on goal while allowing Northeastern State (0-2) to try only one, which was stopped by
Felipe Mattos. Gomes and
Jerome Lawel each had three total shot attempts and one on the goal. Nkoana,
Keynath Walters,
Junior Grizzelle and
Jonathan Nemorden had one shot on goal apiece.Â
On the evening, Lincoln attempted 12 total shots while the RiverHawks were limited to just four shot attempts.
Ackeem Mullings and
Shadrack Eshun had LU's other two shots.
Lincoln will continue its season-opening three-match road trip on Saturday, Sept. 5, when the Blue Tigers visit Springfield, Ill. to play Illinois-Springfield at 5:30 p.m. CDT.
