ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team held a 4-0 lead entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but Missouri-St. Louis rallied for an 11-6 win in the series finale, played on Sunday (April 26).
Tim Fleming got the offense going by leading off the second inning with a double.
Blythe Blakey reached on a walk and
Nolan Laughlin bunted for a single to load the bases. A walk issued to
Jacob Schulte brought home Fleming, then Blakey scored on a fielder's choice for LU's second run of the afternoon.
After stranding UMSL base runners in the bottom of the second and third innings, the Blue Tigers went back to work in the top of the fourth.
Daren Walters-Ansell led the inning off with a single and scored on a base hit from
Andy Srebroski IV. Later in the fourth inning,
Jayden Little plated
Easton Stuckenschneider on a double, putting Lincoln (6-38, 0-28 GLVC) ahead, 4-0.
The Blue Tigers kept the Tritons off the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth despite UMSL loading the bases, but two runs on two hits and an error in the fifth began the rally for Missouri-St. Louis (27-19, 21-7 GLVC). The Tritons later took the lead on a three-run homer in the sixth inning and kept the Blue Tigers off the board until the final frame. In the top of the ninth,
Hunter Mitchell drove in Stuckenschneider on a base hit through the middle, and a double from Fleming allowed
Brody Johns to score.
The Tritons held a slim 11-10 advantage in total hits, though Mitchell and
Carter Otto each struck out UMSL batters on the mound. Srebroski, Mitchell and Fleming tallied two hits apiece, and Walters-Ansell, Laughlin, Little and Stuckenschneider each finished with one. Srebroski posted six putouts and two assists, Laughlin and Little each recorded four putouts and Mitchell and Walters-Ansell each had three. Walters-Ansell and
Blythe Blakey both had two assists.
