JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team dropped a pair of games to Indianapolis on Sunday (April 12). LU fell in the first game of the contest, 21-2, and dropped the second, 10-4.
Both of LU's runs in the first game came in the bottom of the third inning.
Daren Walters-Ansell led the frame off with a base hit,
Chase Morris was hit by a pitch and both players moved into scoring position on a passed ball.
Andy Srebroski IV then drove in the two runners with a double down the left field line.
Blythe Blakey also had a hit in game one while Walters-Ansell finished with two hits.
Brody Kleffner and
Cam Hoelscher each rang up three strikeouts on the mound while
Kooper Houvouras fanned one.
Easton Stuckenschneider led Lincoln (6-28, 0-20 GLVC) with seven putouts while
Jacob Schulte supplied six and
Aidan Streight was next with three. Kleffner recorded three assists.
Game two was a much closer contest, as Indianapolis (23-15, 14-6 GLVC) scored twice in the top of the first, but did not get on the board again afterwards until an RBI single in the sixth inning made it a 3-0 lead for the Greyhounds. Lincoln cut into that lead in the bottom of the sixth when
Jayden Little scored on a base hit from
Tim Fleming. Indianapolis, however, responded with three more runs in the top of the seventh.
Zane Hunter II led the bottom of the seventh off with a double and returned to the plate on a two-base hit from Srebroski. An error allowed Srebroski to move to third, and a sacrifice fly by Stuckenschneider brought him home to help LU cut its deficit down to 6-3. That was as close as the Blue Tigers would come to rallying, however, as the Greyhounds scored a pair of runs in each of the remaining two innings.
Stuckenschneider got his second RBI of the game on a double that drove in Hunter in the ninth inning. Fleming went 3-for-3 at the plate while Schulte, Little and Blakey also had hits.
Jonah Claborn struck out two batters while pitching the first six innings of the contest.
Hunter Mitchell replaced him and fanned two Greyhounds while
Jacob Claborn also had a strikeout.
Schulte finished with a team-high nine putouts and
Blake Holtmeyer provided seven. Walters-Ansell led Lincoln with four assists.
The Blue Tigers return to Vivion Field on Tuesday (April 14) to host William Jewell in a 5:00 p.m. CDT non-conference contest.
