JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team held a 13-5 lead at the end of the first inning of the second game of a double-header on Saturday (April 11), but Indianapolis rallied to win, 23-15. The Greyhounds also won the opener, 23-7.
Lincoln (6-26, 0-18 GLVC) began the bottom of the first inning in game two with a single by
Chase Morris.
Andy Srebroski IV was issued a walk and Morris came home on a base hit by
Easton Stuckenschneider.
Jayden Little drove in both players still on base with an outfield single, and he and
Hunter Mitchell took advantage of mutliple errors by the Greyhounds to tie the game at 5-5.
Blake Holtmeyer hit a three-run homer, plating
Tim Fleming and
Nolan Laughlin, to give LU the lead. Later in the frame, Morris scored another run on a bases-loaded walk issued to Mitchell. Fleming then knocked the ball out of the park for a grand slam, scoring Mitchell, Little and Stuckenschneider to give the Blue Tigers a 13-5 advantage.
Indianapolis (21-15, 12-6 GLVC) slowly clawed its way back into the game and kept the Blue Tigers off the board until the seventh inning, when
Blythe Blakey hit a home run that also plated
Daren Walters-Ansell. Lincoln finished game two with 11 hits, including two apiece from Morris, Stuckenschneider, Little, Mitchell and Fleming.
Mitchell closed the game on the mound and struck out three Greyhound batters.
Ed Noy and
Kris Haley notched one strikeout apiece.
Nolan Laughlin totaled five putouts to lead the Blue Tigers while Walters-Ansell recorded four and Little and Holtmeyer each were responsible for three. Srebroski, who also had a hit, led LU with three assists.
It was a big day for Holtmeyer, as he hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning during the first game.
Felix Marquez, who earned an RBI when he scored
Jacob Schulte on a bases-loaded walk, joined
Nate Lucas and Morris as the other Blue Tigers to score on Holtmeyer's homer.
In the third inning, Morris came home on a double-play for LU's first run of the afternoon. Lincoln's second game in the fourth inning when Schulte drove in Fleming on a sacrifice fly. Morris had two hits in the opener while Holtmeyer, Laughlin, Fleming, Mitchell, Stuckenschneider and Srebroski each recorded one.
Canon Feist rang up a strikeout as LU's starting pitcher and Mitchell led the Blue Tigers with eight putouts. Morris finished with a team-high four assists.
The Blue Tigers and the Greyhounds will meet again on Sunday (April 12) in a 10:00 a.m. CDT double-header.
