ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team opened GLVC play on Friday (March 6) by playing the first contest in a four-game series at Maryville. The Saints took Friday's game, 16-4.
Maryville (5-9, 1-0 GLVC) got off to a big start, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game. The Saints only held an 11-7 advantage in hits, but took advantage of three LU errors and six multi-base hits.
Lincoln (3-8, 0-1 GLVC) scored all of its runs in the top of the fifth, as a fielder's choice and singles from
Felix Marquez and
Andy Srebroski IV loaded the bases with just the one out on the board.
Jayden Little then hit a grand slam over the left field fence that plated
Aidan Streight and the other two base-runners.
Tim Fleming, who had a double, and Srebroski, who notched a triple, each had two hits while
Easton Stuckenschneider finished with one.
Canon Feist and
Jayce Baser both struck out two Maryville batters on the mound. Stuckenschneider provided a team-high four putouts and
Daren Walters-Ansell led the Blue Tigers with three assists.
Lincoln and Maryville will take the diamond again on Saturday (March 7) for a double-header. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CST.
