JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -
Bella Borgos paced the Lincoln women's basketball team with 17 points, but the Blue Tigers dropped a 62-56 decision to Lewis in Jason Gym on Thursday (Feb. 5).
The Flyers took a 17-8 lead through the first 10 minutes of play, but the Blue Tigers outscored Lewis (14-8, 10-3 GLVC) by two to pull within 28-21 at halftime. Lincoln (4-17, 2-12 GLVC) kept fighting in the third quarter, ultimately tying the game at 36 with four minutes remaining in the period.
Lewis drained a quick three to regain the lead and built a six-point lead entering the fourth quarter. A triple by Borgos knotted the score at 49 and, after Lewis turned the ball over on an offensive foul,
Isis Sanders made a layup to give the Blue Tigers a two-point advantage. The score would later be tied at 53, but a 7-1 run allowed the Flyers to regain a 60-54 lead entering the final minute of regulation. A jumper by Borgos cut the deficit down to four, but Lincoln was kept off the scoreboard afterwards as Lewis earned the win.
Borgos finished with three rebounds, an assist and a steal while Sanders added 13 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Hallie Williamson supplied nine points, two boards, a block and a pair of assists to the Lincoln cause, and
Taelyn Smith grabbed a team-high six rebounds to go with seven points and a block.
Kiara Cabrera and
Aaliyah Smith each finished with four points and two rebounds, with Cabrera additionally tallying a steal.
Kaleah Toran closed the scoring with two points and four rebounds.
Kennedy Jones notched two takeaways, dished an assist and grabbed two rebounds.
Lincoln is back in Jason Gym on Saturday (Feb. 7) to host Upper Iowa at 1:00 p.m. CST.
