JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Parkside rallied from a four-run deficit to beat the Lincoln baseball team, 13-8, in the second game of a double-header on Saturday (Feb. 28). The Rangers also took the opener, 15-3.
In the night cap, Lincoln (3-7) took the early lead on a first inning home run from Jaden Little that also plated
Andy Srebroski IV. Parkside (8-4) responded by scoring a run in each of the third, fourth and fifth frames, but LU caught fire in the bottom of the fifth.
Nate Lucas hit a solo homerun, Little drove in
Felix Marquez with a base hit,
Blythe Blakey scored both Little and Srebroski with a single into deep center field, and
Tim Fleming made it a 7-3 lead for the Blue Tigers by driving in Blakey.
A sacrifice fly allowed the Rangers to cut the deficit down to three in the top of the sixth, but Little picked up his fourth RBI of the game in the bottom half of the frame by hitting a double that allowed Lucas to score. The 8-4 Blue Tiger advantage would stand until the top of the eighth, when a two-run homer sparked a four-run inning for Parkside that knotted the score at 8-8. The Rangers broke the tie in the top of the ninth by scoring five more runs on five hits.
Little finished with three hits while Srebroski, Blakey, Marquez and
Easton Stuckenschneider finished with two apiece.
Daren Walters-Ansell also had a hit for LU while Little and
Chase Morris each stole bases.
Hunter Mitchell started game two on the mound and struck out six Ranger batters.
Carter Otto also rang up two strikeouts while
Jacob Claborn and
Ronan Podhola each recorded one. Stuckenschneider ended the night with a team-high 12 putouts and Srebroski and Little each turned two assists.
In the first game on Saturday, Parkside scored at least one run in each of the first six innings and finished with a 15-7 advantage in total hits. Mitchell hit a double into center field that drove in Little in the third inning, and LU added two more runs in the sixth on RBI singles from
Aiden Boeckmann and Srebroski. Little had two hits while Srebroski, Walters-Ansell and Blakey each had one. Blakey and Boeckmann also scored runs.
Fleming struck out two batters in a relief role and
Jayce Baser notched one strikeout. Mitchell led LU defensively with nine putouts, Aiden Streight had four and
Zane Hunter II finished with three. Srebroski turned three assists.
Lincoln opens GLVC play next weekend with a four-game series in St. Louis, Mo. against Maryville. The teams will meet for a 2:00 p.m. CST contest on Friday (March 6) before playing a noon double-header on Saturday (March 7). The final game of the series will be a 12:00 p.m. CST start on Sunday (March 8).
