JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team had a rally fall just a little short in game two of a double-header against Parkside on Friday (Feb. 27), as the Blue Tigers dropped an 11-7 decision. Parkside also won the earlier contest, 12-2.
After falling behind 10-2 in the top of the sixth inning of the night cap, the Blue Tigers began their rally in the bottom half of the frame when
Jacob Schulte plated
Nate Lucas with a double. A throwing error later allowed Schulte to score, cutting the Ranger lead down to 10-4. LU defensively stranded a runner on second in the top of the seventh, then tacked on a fifth run when
Andy Srebroski IV, who led the bottom of the seventh off with a double, was driven in by
Jayden Little.
Lincoln (3-5) closed the gap to four in the bottom of the eighth as Schulte scored on a sacrifice fly hit by
Chase Morris. A two-out error allowed Parkside (6-4) to briefly regain a five-run advantage, but Little hit a triple in the bottom of the ninth and came home on a base hit by
Hunter Mitchell.
Srebroski opened the scoring in game two by reaching the plate on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning, and a sacrifice fly by Little plated
Felix Marquez in the fifth. Srebroski and Mitchell each had three hits, helping the Blue Tigers to out-hit the Rangers, 11-10. Little finished with two hits while Marquez, Schulte and Lucas each had one. Marquez and
Zane Hunter II each stole bases.
Brody Kleffner struck out four Parkside batters as LU's starter, and
Kooper Houvouras fanned one while
Jonah Claborn, the closer, notched two strikeouts. Schulte led Lincoln with eight putouts and Morris was next with four.
Blythe Blakey had a team-high three assists, followed by
Ty Ollison with two.
In the first game, Parkside scored three runs in the top of the opening frame and added another in the third before LU got on the board in the fourth when Mitchell scored on a fielder's choice. Little later hit a solo homerun for Lincoln's other score. Blakey and Mitchell each had hits while starting pitcher
Canon Feist struck out five opposing batters.
Tyler Jackson also recorded a strikeout.
Easton Stuckenschneider had six putouts to lead the Blue Tiger defense.
Brody Johns was responsible for four putouts and
Daren Walters-Ansell supplied three. Srebroski also had three putouts and led LU with three assists.
