JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's soccer team held a 1-0 lead at halftime, but a few scores early in the second half allowed Missouri-St. Louis to win, 4-2, on Sunday (Sept. 28).
A crossing pass from
Madison Wimberly to
Ivanna Faria in the 39th minute set up the first goal of the afternoon, and
Michelle Granja made six saves to send the game into intermission with Lincoln (0-3-2, 0-3-1 GLVC) leading, 1-0. Missouri-St. Louis (5-2-1, 4-0-1 GLVC) scored twice within the first three minutes of the second half, however, and added what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 64th minute.Â
The Blue Tigers pulled back within one in the 71st minute when
Angela Reynolds shot the ball past the UMSL goalkeeper after receiving the ball from Faria. In the 85th minute, however, the Tritons scored once more and held on for the victory.
Missouri-St. Louis finished with a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks and a 26-5 edge on total shots. Granja made 12 total saves on the afternoon and
Kayleb Garrett and
Juli Wismar each had a shot on goal. Wismar finished with a team-high two shot attempts.
Lincoln travels to St. Louis, Mo. next Friday (Oct. 3) to play Maryville at 4:00 p.m. CDT.
