JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's soccer team, ranked No. 10 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll, scored their only goal of the day in the second half as the Blue Tigers and Missouri-St. Louis played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday (Sept. 28).
Lincoln remained unbeaten on the year and now has an overall record of 5-0-1 and a GLVC mark of 3-0-1. UMSL, meanwhile, is now 1-2-4 on the year and 1-1-3 in conference play.
The Tritons struck in the first half in the 31st minute when a series of ricochets led to an UMSL player heading the ball past the LU keeper. Lincoln allowed Missouri-St. Louis to attempt only four shots and
Vincent Osei stopped the only other attempt on the goal.
In the second half,
Nkouka Loubassou shot the ball past the UMSL keeper in the 60th minute for the only other goal of the contest. That goal also was made possible thanks to a series of bounces, with
Adam Griffiths knocking the ball to
Hadri Lopez, who then headed it to Loubassou.
Griffiths had three shot attempts, including one on goal, and
Adam Benrahou and
Jaheem Johnson each finished with two shots overall and one on the net.
Antwone Smith had Lincoln's ninth and final shot attempt of the afternoon.
The Blue Tigers will travel to St. Louis, Mo. on Friday (Oct. 3) to play Maryville at 6:30 p.m. CDT.
