JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - After a flurry of goals in the first half, the Lincoln women's soccer team and Southwest Baptist held each other scoreless over the final 45 minutes in a 2-2 draw on Friday night (Sept. 19).
The Bearcats struck first, as a quick cross set up a goal in the 20th minute. In the 28th minute, Lincoln (0-1-2, 0-1-1 GLVC) answered when
Ivanna Faria took the ball off a deflection from a defender and sent it past the Southwest Baptist (2-3-1, 0-1-1 GLVC) keeper. Southwest Baptist ended the game with the advantage in total shots, 16-13, but Lincoln held the lead in shots on goal, 8-7.
Lincoln took its first lead of the game in the 39th minute, as
Caitlyn Phillips bounced a quick pass to
Kayleb Garrett, who scored to make it a 2-1 affair. It didn't take the Bearcats long to respond, however, as an unassisted goal in the 40th minute knotted the score back up at two apiece.
Both Garrett and Faria ended the night with four shot attempts, with Garrett having three on goal and Faria tallying two.
Madison Wimberly added two shots, including one on the net, while
Angela Reynolds and
Carolina Dos Santos additionally had shots on the goal.
Cierra Bradley had the other shot attempt of the evening.
Michelle Granja, meanwhile, recorded five saves.
The Blue Tigers travel to Springfield, Mo. on Sunday (Sept. 21) to play Drury in their first road GLVC game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CDT.
