JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A late second half goal helped Missouri S&T beat the Lincoln women's soccer team, 1-0, in LU's home opener on Sunday (Sept. 14).
It was also the first GLVC match of the season for both teams, and for most of the contest it looked like the result would be a 0-0 draw. Both teams played excellent defense, with Missouri S&T (3-1-0) stopping all three of Lincoln's (0-1-1) shots on goal. The Blue Tigers attempted six total shots, including two by
Ivanna Faria.
In the 84th minute, Lincoln's keeper
Kanon Dehama got a hand on a shot attempt, but the ball ricocheted back to the Miners. Missouri S&T was able to capitalize on the lucky deflection by kicking the ball into the back of the net for the only goal of the contest. Dehama had an outstanding afternoon, making 12 saves while maintaining a shutout for most of the day.
Carolina Dos Santos,
Kayleb Garrett and
Madison Wimberly each had a shot on goal while
Mia Greathouse provided Lincoln's other shot opportunity.
The Blue Tigers are back at home on Friday (Sept. 19) to host Southwest Baptist at 5:00 p.m. CDT.
